International Medical Graduates Assessment for Conditional Licensure (IMGACL)
The International Medical Graduate Assessment for Conditional Licensure (IMGACL) is a four month (one month orientation and three month assessment) program leading to conditional licensure to practice as a primary care physician in rural/remote Manitoba. The application process includes an interview and successful completion of the Clinicians Assessment and Professional Enhancement (CAPE) process. Participation in the IMGACL requires sponsorship from an employer. Following successful completion of the IMGACL and approval from the CPSM, IMGs are granted conditional medical registration and begin medical practice in their sponsoring regions.
The process is administered through the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine. For further details on the process, please visit http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/medicine/education/imgp/
For detailed information on requirements for conditional registration as a primary care physician with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM), please visit their website: http://cpsm.mb.ca/registration/categories-of-registration/257-2
The Medical Licensure Program for International Medical Graduates (MLPIMG)
The MLPIMG is a one year training program, which was implemented in April 2001 to assist international medical graduates (IMGs) living in Manitoba to obtain conditional medical registration and begin primary care practice in the Province. Successful IMG applicants undergo an assessment to determine if they have the medical knowledge and skills required for licensure in Manitoba. The application process includes an interview and successful completion of the National Assessment Collaboration Objective Structured Clinical Examination (NACOSCE).
Participation in the MLPIMG requires sponsorship from an employer. Following successful completion of the MLPIMG and approval from the CPSM, IMGs are granted conditional medical registration and begin medical practice in their sponsoring regions. The process is administered through the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine. For further details on the process, please visit http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/medicine/education/imgp/
The Non-Registered Specialist Assessment Program (NRSAP)
The goal of the NRSAP is to organize and facilitate clinical assessments of physicians whose registration will be limited to a specialty field of training in order that they may meet the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM) for licensure. The NRSAP strives to standardize these assessments for each specialty and to ensure that they are carried out in a fair and unbiased manner.
A sponsoring institution (e.g., program/department, recruiting Regional Health Authority) will contact the CPSM to ensure that the recruited physician's training meets the entry to practice requirements as defined by CPSM. Once the CPSM has approved the candidate’s credentials and eligibility for licensure, the sponsoring institution will contact the NRSAP coordinator, who will proceed to set up an assessment period appropriate for the specific specialty. For more information on the NRSAP, including forms and documents for conditional registration, please click here.
